In this news you can learn more on one of MASTERLY’s use cases through a short interview.
Which is the core activity of your company?
AERNNOVA is a leading TIER-1 company for designing, manufacturing metallic/composite parts, and the final assembly of aircraft structures, such as wings, central wing box, fuselage, empennages and movable surfaces. It has been growing to increase its capacity and efficiency to serve the main OEM worldwide. Critical&complex structures with high demanding requirements are produced in AERNNOVA AEROSTRUCTURE ALAVA which has become our excellent site, gathering high technologies and automation.

Which application is mainly addressed in the MASTERLY project?
The application is focused on the handling of large composite skins (picture 2), which are picked up from the transportation dolly, lifted and located accurate in the assembly jig. The main challenge is to develop an automatic system capable of working together with Robots and workers, making this process robust, collision-free and compatible with the industrial environment.

Which activities do you expect to carry out in the MASTERLY project?
We are responsible for the definition of the requirements: process specification, key parameters, health and safety of the application that will be developed by the technical partners and deployed in our current production line. Our staff will be trained for using the solution in our takt line during the trials. After this period, a final report will be produced taking care of the industrial improvement and safety compared to the current manual operation. We will be an important testbench to help our partners reach the technology maturity level.
Which progresses and improvements do you foresee for your company thanks to the MASTERLY project?
The solution to be developed in MASTERLY will be the key point to increase our production rate in the takt line and the quality of the product, avoiding the risk of collisions. We want to assure process robustness for the safety of the workers and the technical requirements. Moreover, we want to be compatible with the industrial environment, where other automatic processes are already working.
