The first year of the MASTERLY project has come to an end, and we are happy to present what has been achieved so far by our project. In this year, partners met in person to conduct activities together, participate in international and European events, publish scientific articles, and develop the initial layers for the full development of the three project use cases.
MASTERLY is dedicated to fostering technological advancements and driving the widespread adoption of robotics and digital solutions, catering to both large enterprises and SMEs. Our mission revolves around the creation of adaptable robotic solutions featuring modular grippers, complemented by cutting-edge robotic technologies – including mobile, high, and low payload industrial and collaborative robots, as well as smart cranes. These innovations are fortified with advanced AI-driven control and perception capabilities, empowering them to operate autonomously while efficiently handling a diverse array of parts, varying in size, shape, and material. Importantly, these solutions are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all members of the workforce. In partnership with key end users from the elevator assembly, sportswear warehouse logistics, and aeronautics production sectors (KLEEMANN, DECATHLON, and AERNNOVA), we are testing the flexibility, efficiency, and user acceptance of our solutions.

The Kickoff Meeting took place in Patras, Greece, hosted by our partner and coordinator LMS. The successful kickoff set a strong foundation for the project. Partners met for the first time and started a very fruitful collaboration. LinkedIn Post
In the summer partner met in Bilbao, Spain at TEKNIKER facilities after 6 months of work to showcase initial results and discuss plans for future activities. LinkedIn Post
Starting from March 2023, the MASTERLY project became a partner in the Hybrid Production System (HPS) cluster, which groups more than 30 EU-funded projects (FP7, H2020, Horizon Europe) dealing with hybrid production. The cluster promotes knowledge and experience sharing, aiming to define the roadmap for Hybrid Production Systems. The official presentation of the MASTERLY project took place at the European Robotics Forum 2023 (ERF2023), the most influential meeting of the robotics community in Europe. Link to the news.
In the same period, MASTERLY officially joined the EFRRA-Made in Europe co-programmed partnership. This manufacturing partnership, created in collaboration with the European Commission, falls under the Framework Programme Horizon Europe, Cluster 4. Link to the news.
Furthermore, MASTERLY project was included in the #8 ENGINE Newsletter published in Decembre 2023. The EuropeaN diGital Innovation Network (ENGINE), is made by R&D projects focused on digitalizing products and processes. The shared goal between projects is to drive innovation, promote sustainability, and build a more resilient EU Industry. LinkedIn Post.
In this first year, our partner participated in different European events. Our partner TEKNIKER attended the CONTROL trade fair for quality assurance in May 2023, a prominent exhibition focused on quality control, providing valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange, interaction, and business transactions. Link to the news. Our partner, the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), attended the Maker Faire Rome 2023, a leading hub for technological enthusiasts. This event served as a prime platform for industry representatives to explore the potential applications of MASTERLY in their respective businesses, emphasizing the practical significance of such robotic solutions in today’s modern production processes. Other achievements of the project included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between our partners KIMM, LMS, and the EIT Manufacturing. This MOU aims to fortify collaboration among industry, academia, and research by facilitating joint research initiatives, sharing of information, and pooling of resources in the domain of manufacturing equipment. This activity was in the context of Europe-Korae collaboration as required by the call. Link to the news.
In October 2023, in a pioneering effort towards advancing the realm of mobile robot control systems, our partner, the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute,” made an important contribution to the scientific community by publishing their research article, titled “Energy Efficient RANSAC Algorithm for Flat Surface Detection in Point Clouds.” The discoveries outlined in the article serve as a foundational aspect of all three use cases within the MASTERLY project. The last physical meeting for the MASTERLY consortium took place in Genova at STAM facilities. A conclusive meeting for the first year of the project where partners delved into discussions about the achieved objectives and outlined activities for the upcoming years, setting the stage for exciting future developments.
